The many blooms of Spring and Summer in Seattle have been particularly vibrant this year and have inspired my body of work on exhibit at Bainbridge Arts & Crafts this September.  The floating dahlia dishes I started making last year have grown into serving bowls, and cherry blossoms are meandering around my pitchers and jars while fields of wild flowers are growing up around my teapots.

The gallery is located just a short walk from the ferry terminal at 151 Winslow Way East, Bainbridge Island.  The exhibit will be up through September 29th, so drop by the gallery if you’re on Bainbridge Island in September.

I’ve always loved the look of blossoms floating in a bowl of water. Late last fall, my friend Ann took a number of stunning photos of dahlias that planted themselves in my brain.

These floating flower bowls/dishes eventually grew out of a series of word associations inspired by both of these concepts:

Dahlias, floating flowers, water flowers, lilly, lotus …
Bowl of water, color of water, water ripples, …
